As you know, Bullets Forever is part of the SB Nation site network. And SB Nation is the founding brand of Vox Media, our parent company. And sometimes, the news about our parent company is something we should write about, even if briefly.
Yesterday, Benjamin Mullin and Jessica Testa of The New York Times reported that James Murdoch, a son of Fox Corporation and News Corp mogul Rupert Murdoch, through his holding company Lupa Systems, will take a 50 percent ownership stake in three of Vox Media’s
brands: Vox.com, the Vox Media Podcast Network and New York Magazine. Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff will remain CEO of the Murdoch-controlled operation once the sale is finalized in about four to six weeks and reports valued this deal at $300 million.
If you are not deeply into media news, James Murdoch is one of the Murdoch children who are no longer part of the Fox Corporation and News Corp’s ecosystem. And James is known to not be as right wing politically as Lachlan Murdoch, who controls the Fox Corporation and News Corp ecosystem today.
The remaining brands of the current Vox Media: SB Nation, Eater, The Verge, Popsugar, and The Dodo will be part of a new yet-to-be-named company. Vox Media President Ryan Pauley will be its CEO. So our site and SB Nation will be part of the new company.
The media world is vastly changing. Big companies split for various reasons (like Comcast splitting NBCUniversal from most of its cable networks like MS NOW, fka MSNBC and CNBC, now part of Versant.). And just so you know, our site is not going anywhere because of corporate moves a thousand levels above us. In fact, there will be more new experiences on SB Nation in the future.
Let us know your thoughts below. I can’t answer any questions because I am processing it like the rest of you. But my SB Nation bosses let us know what the move will be from corporate.
