As Liverpool limped towards the end of the 2025-26 season, all the transfer chatter around the club focused on the need to sign two high quality wingers in the summer, and the recent departure of Arne Slot as head coach and imminent arrival of Andoni Iraola isn’t expected to change that.
And when it comes to potential high quality winger targets, most of the attention has been on RB Leipzig rising star Yan Diomande. Capturing the 19-year-old won’t be simple, though, and he won’t come cheap, with Leipzig said
to want £104M (€120M) to sell and Paris Saint-Germain also interested.
Liverpool’s interest, though, is serious—and according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, it’s Liverpool and not PSG who are in fact the frontrunners to sign Diomande if Leipzig can be convinced to part with him. For their part, Leipzig are said to be determined not to sell.
In general over the years, Leipzig being determined not to sell has mostly meant they would like to be given lots and lots of money please and thank you, and there’s little reason to think that’s not the situation here, especially when they paid just £17M (€20) to sign Diomande from Leganés last summer.
Diomande is clearly one of Europe’s top young attacking talents, but given he has just 46 games of experience as a senior player and only began playing organized football as a 15 year old there will inevitably be some concerns about paying the kind of fee it would likely take to sign him from Leipzig.
