There is rumored to be a gap between what Bayern Munich wants to pay for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon and the value that the Magpies have on the attacker.
How do the Bavarians bridge that gap? Well, ChronicleLive journalist Sean McCormick has an interesting idea to help the situation — include Alexander Nübel in the deal.
Bayern Munich wants to pay in the range of €70 million for Gordon, while Newcastle United reportedly wants €90 million. Including Nübel in such a deal could be the ideal way
to get the teams to make an agreement.
34-year-old Nick Pope and Southampton loanee Aaron Ramsdale split duties this season for Newcastle and the club is reportedly seeking a permanent solution in between the sticks. Nübel could be the long-term starter that the Magpies are looking for:
Bayern feel now is the time to offload Nubel, who is under contract until 2030, as a result and while they won’t be short of suitors, reports in Germany suggest they may have to stump up a percentage of his wages to get him off their books. Nubel will also be part of Germany’s World Cup squad this summer and it begs the question whether Newcastle would benefit if Bayern included him as part of any Gordon deal.
It may be a creative solution that suits all parties. Bayern may be able to bridge the valuation gap by offering Newcastle an international goalkeeper, who would improve them in a priority position and help their style of play to evolve with a ball-playing goalkeeper.
From Nubel’s point of view, it gives him the stability of a permanent home at an ambitious club and regular football at one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League. It almost feels too obvious for either or both clubs to propose it as a possible resolution.
Yes, this is just a writer’s idea, but it does solve problems for both Bayern Munich and Newcastle United. As McCormick notes earlier in his column, the Magpies have to be aware that “one thing couldn’t be clearer from the end of season lap of honor from Newcastle United’s players on Sunday, it is that Anthony Gordon’s future looks to be away from Tyneside this summer.”
