As we continue to move towards the football transfer portal, more Syracuse Orange players have announced their intention to transfer.
Since our last update five players have announced their intention to enter the portal in January: long-snapper Ethan Stangle. wide receivers Jaylan Hornsby and Emmanuel Ross, linebacker Fatim Diggs and quarterback Jakhari Williams.
Of this group, Stangle, Hornsby and Ross were the ones with the most playing time for Syracuse. Stangle served as the long-snapper for punts
this season while the two second-year receivers saw time in the rotation. Ross played six games and had 10 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown. Hornsby played 11 games and had 8 receptions for 103 yards and a score.
Diggs was credited with 5 tackles over his two seasons and Williams missed this season with injury after losing the spring quarterback battle with Rickie Collins. Neither player found themselves earning a lot of playing time this season, so their transfer doesn’t come as a surprise.
While it’s true that Syracuse appears to be deep at the receiver spot, the loss of Ross could have an impact. He was a player Fran Brown flipped from Stanford and the former four-star showed flashes of potential on the outside. Obviously the addition of top recruits Calvin Russell and Amare Gough help cushion the loss of two receivers from a group expected to return a lot of players who saw time this season.
It’s still a few weeks until the portal officially opens to stay tuned for more news.
