Last fall, Taz took some time off from calling action for AEW. Injuries forced the ECW legend to retire and take up commentary full-time all the way back in 2002, but he’d still put off getting both his
knees replaced. Missing the last few months of 2024 was what it took to get that surgery done, and recover from it so he could be on the road as an announcer again.
The damage to his knees, Taz said, came mostly from lifting as opposed to bumping. He also told us that “training too heavy like a caveman trying to be ‘big’” also led to his needing to get his shoulders replaced as well. He announced today (Oct. 8) that he’s going to do that soon, and as a result “will be off AEW Dynamite for some time”.
Best wishes to the Human Suplex Machine on a successful operation and complete recovery. We’ll keep you posted with any updates he provides or word on his return to Dynamite.
