Kentucky football came up short in its pursuit of one of the top prospects in the state.
4-star tight end Seneca Driver, the No. 1-ranked player in Kentucky for the class of 2027, announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Saturday night while on a visit to Norman.
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end from Boyle County High School in Danville has quickly emerged as one of the most sought-after prospects in the region early in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Kentucky made Driver a major priority after Will Stein
was hired as head coach in December, and the in-state standout made multiple visits to Lexington as the new staff worked to build a strong relationship with him.
For a stretch earlier this year, it appeared Kentucky had positioned itself well in the recruitment. However, Oklahoma continued to push and ultimately gained momentum in recent weeks before securing Driver’s commitment.
Driver’s size and athletic ability make him one of the more intriguing tight end prospects in the country at this stage of the recruiting cycle.
Stein and his staff attempted to lean on the excitement surrounding their offensive vision, including the way tight ends were used in the offense at Oregon. However, Oklahoma had built strong traction in Driver’s recruitment, and it proved to be too much ground for Kentucky to make up in a relatively short amount of time.
Even with the commitment, Kentucky will likely continue to recruit Driver moving forward. As one of the top players in the state and a prospect playing just down the road in Danville, the Wildcats are unlikely to completely close the door until he eventually signs.
Meanwhile, Kentucky’s staff is already evaluating several other top tight end prospects in the 2027 class as they continue to build their recruiting board.
