

The first day of September is a big day for high school softball players who are just starting their junior year. It’s the first day college coaches can officially contact them. Soon after, the verbal commitments start. Arizona picked up at least two commits from the class of 2027 less than a week into their official recruiting period.
Wildcats head coach Caitlin Lowe and her staff were given promises by pitcher Eloisa Maes and corner infielder Charlie Simi on Sunday. Softball America rates both as
four-star recruits.
Softball America ranks Simi as the class of 2027’s 56th overall recruit, 8th corner infielder, and top player in Nevada. The outlet gives her a score of 94.
Maes is ranked as the 110th overall player, 40th pitcher, and 28th player in Texas. She has a score of 92.
Simi plays prep for Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas and travel ball for Althetics Mercado-Tidd. SA lists her as a corner infielder, but other profiles have her listed as a shortstop and utility player as well as a third baseman.
Simi appeared in 61 games for Bishop Gorman last season. She had a .420 average and a 1.414 on-base plus slugging percentage in 2025. She drew struck out five times in 88 at-bats and drew 15 walks in 108 plate appearances.
Simi had 23 extrabase hits with 13 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 home runs as a sophomore. She scored 41 runs and drove in 37.
Simi also was a hit in Little League softball. She helped her team reach the Little League World Series in 2021. The next year, she scored an inside-the-park home run during the postseason.
Maes will come to Tucson from Melissa (TX) High School just outside of Dallas where she just led her team to its second straight state title. She garnered UIL 5A Division I state finals MVP honors while finishing the year 31-1 and helping her team to a 38-1 record. She had a 1.27 ERA and 222 strikeouts heading into the title game.
Maes has pitched a total of 232 innings in 62 appearances over the past two years. That includes 145.1 IP in 34 appearances as a sophomore. She has a career ERA of 1.30 and a 40-1 record. She has struck out 367 of the 887 batters she has faced.
Maes plays travel ball for Texas Glory. During the 2025 season, she started 25 games in the TFL, one of the regional leagues that make up Alliance Fastpitch. She finished with a 16-2 record. She recorded a 1.798 ERA and a 0.753 WHIP. She struck out 154 batters in 118.2 IP.
Maes committed to the Wildcats despite not attending elite camps in Tucson. Her travel team lists her history of camp attendance, which consisted mostly of SEC and ACC schools. Her only Big 12 camp was at Oklahoma State
