When will Manuel Neuer retire? That has been a question on fans minds’ for almost half a decade since winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2020, yet Neuer has shown no signs of slowing down. Neuer who just turned 40 years old, delivered a world-class performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League and has shown he is still capable of performing at an elite level.
One thing that is uncertain though, is how much longer Neuer will continue his time in Munich as the club and player
both have major decisions to consider in the coming weeks as this season nears its wrap-up. Based on latest reports from Bild, it appears Bayern are in no rush to extend Neuer and are letting the legendary goalkeeper control his fate.
Manuel Neuer who has been linked to a return back to the national team for this summer’s World Cup will also have a decision to make regarding whether or not he wishes to appear for Germany once again. However, there have been rumors swirling around that Julian Nagelsmann is the one to have closed that door.
At Neuer’s age, why rush to a decision? He can wait a couple months and with the conclusion of the Champions League behind him, make up his mind. As for Bayern Munich, his performance in the upcoming matches will help determine whether Neuer should continue with the club and with Jonas Urbig stepping up this season, it’s not like there is a major urgency to get a replacement.
Should Neuer retire though, there is a veteran goalkeeper at Hoffenheim who could be brought in at a bargain to help cover the net for the Bavarians while Urbig continues to hone his craft.
