The Minnesota Vikings’ search for their next general manager rolls along… and has lingered a bit in the Pacific Northwest.
After firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah at the end of January, the team in the Twin Cities is still looking for the head man for the big front office role. Adofo-Mensah was released by the team, speculatively, in part (at least optics-wise), due to the decision to let both Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones walk in free agency in favor of sophomore QB, J.J. McCarthy.
That decision would seem
to haunt the Vikings after the Seattle Seahawks went from a 10-win team to the Super Bowl champion in one year with Darnold at the controls. McCarthy would go on to put up the 35th-ranked QB Rating (out of 36) in the league last year.
In his 14th season with the ‘Hawks (4th as Assistant General Manager), Nolan Teasley is one of five candidates that were requested for Minny’s second round of interviews. The Central Washington University alum began as a scouting intern in Seattle and worked his way through multiple levels of responsibility.
If Teasley is hired by Minnesota, being considered a minority candidate, it would return a third-round pick in each of the next two NFL drafts for the Seattle Seahawks.
After a dominant title run, the Seahawks have already seen some poaching of their brain trust by other teams. The Las Vegas Raiders hired OC, Klint Kubiak as their next head coach, along with QB coach-turned OC, Andrew Janocko. Former Seattle run game coordinator, Rick Dennison is now the offensive line coach in Sin City as well.
If Teasley departs, Seahawks GM, John Schneider could turn to a deep group of personnel executives to help fill the void moving forward. Schneider has been building out the front office since 2010, and that work could lead to some of those assistants getting their own chances at the big chair.
