George MacIntyre is set to make his second career start on Saturday, getting the nod over Faizon Brandon to face the Alabama Crimson Tide. MacIntyre has been the man under center for Tennessee since taking over for Brandon during the Auburn game.
Pete Thamel and Austin Price had the news on Thursday morning.
MacIntyre was 18-29 for 247 yards on Saturday’s ugly win over Arkansas, tossing two interceptions and a touchdown.
“I thought he was decisive with the football,” Josh Heupel said of MacIntyre this week. “He was going to the right spot. Made some plays. Did some things inside of the pocket that were really positive. You know the third down makes a guy miss, keeps his eyes down the football field. Collectively as a group we got to do a better job taking care of the football. We got to play smarter and not make it more difficult on ourselves to pre-nap penalties whatever it might be. So, a lot to clean up collectively as a group but he did a good job.”
Faizon Brandon continues to fight through a shoulder injury, which Heupel said affected his play against Auburn. Brandon is listed as questionable on the injury report, which will be updated again on Thursday and Friday.
Tennessee and Alabama are set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. ABC will have the call. The Volunteers remain roughly a touchdown underdog.
