Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
Early on Sunday last week, ESPN mentioned “it would not surprise those in the league if teams start calling on Eagles guard Landon Dickerson” in addition to how “rival GMs ask the question of whether they trade their top skill players like Saquon Barkley.” Now The Athletic is also mentioning Barkley and Dickerson in trade buzz … and Riq Woolen as well. I don’t think Howie Roseman has decided to be a seller at
this moment in time. But I do think he’s making it known that some of the Eagles’ key players might be available. As he should be.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
What I’m hearing: Hurts’ blood-clot questions, Shedeur’s future, Micah Parsons’ return, trade deadline rumors – The Athletic
If the losses pile up, you’ll begin hearing Philly’s big names in trade discussions, whether general manager Howie Roseman intends to deal them or not. I have had team executives already float whether the Eagles would/could/should part with running back Saquon Barkley and cornerback Riq Woolen. Offensive guard Landon Dickerson wondered aloud this week whether he’s in the team’s future plans. What becomes of Hurts’ and the Eagles’ partnership after this season appears complicated. The two sides did not renegotiate his contract this offseason, three years after his $255 million extension. A franchise that typically does big deals earlier than most teams, the Eagles have Hurts under contract for just two more years, and this season was viewed as critical to determining which way things would go.
Roob’s Eagles Observations: What makes Tanner McKee unique – NBCSP
LANDON’S FUTURE: I keep going back to this: If the Eagles were totally willing to trade Cam Jurgens, why wouldn’t they be totally willing to trade Landon Dickerson as well? If the offer is right? I think Howie would do it, for all the same reasons – freeing up a huge amount of future cash, moving on from a late-20s interior lineman who’s best days are likely behind him and adding to the growing draft pick stockpile. One difference is that the Eagles believed they already had an heir apparent to Jurgens in Drew Kendall, and I’m not sure they feel the same way about any of their other young interior linemen – Jake Majors, Willie Lampkin or Micah Morris. But they can figure out left guard. I think we’re seeing the first couple steps on what’s going to be an almost total o-line overhaul. Lane Johnson, Cam Jurgens and Dickerson made a combined 11 Pro Bowls and they could all be gone fairly soon. And don’t forget, Tyler Steen is unsigned beyond this year and with his level of play dropping off from last year they could be replacing everybody on the o-line other than Jordan Mailata. Which is crazy. Howie has drafted well on the o-line over the years with a couple notable exceptions that you know all too well, and he may need to repeat that success over the next year or two.
Is losing getting to the Eagles? – BGN
The crumbling usually starts like this. The subtleties surface like tiny lashing out spurts and the vacant facial expressions that take command when NFL teams are sinking without any answers available. General manager Howie Roseman may be feeling the sting of a three-game losing streak. Bleeding Green Nation recently learned he expressed frustration during an impromptu gathering with local media over a benign question about the offensive line. Roseman has been seen at practices more often than usual. He stormed off the sidelines visibly upset, his face distorted after the 19-17 walkoff loss to Jacksonville in London last Sunday. Poor offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has worn the look of a man escaping from the spin cycle of a Maytag washing machine during the Eagles’ current three-game losing streak. How the team has been covered by media this season has also drawn significant displeasure from some inside the building. Is losing getting to them?
Touchdown Tanner? Eagles Locker Room Sees Greatness In Tanner McKee – PHLY Eagles Podcast
That’s right, Zack Baun compares Tanner McKee to … Tom Brady of all people, dooming McKee to a future of losing to the Eagles in the Super Bowl, public divorce and no strawberries. Alas, his road to the Hall of Fame begins Sunday when he leads the Eagles into battle against the Carolina Panthers with Jalen Hurts on the sidelines. Oh, and the team signed Joe Milton! Deniz Selman and Brandon Lee Gowton join Bo Wulf to unpack another wild week for your favorite football team.
5 Questions with Bleeding Green Nation – Cat Scratch Reader
The Panthers are back and they’re facing what’s left of the shockingly 2-3 Eagles as they return from a game in London just six days ago now. Tomorrow we’ll see if they are awake and healthy enough to contend with a Panthers squad that should be freshly rested from their early bye week. To see what other storylines and shenanigans we should be on the lookout for this week, I spoke with Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation to get the inside scoop on the Eagles quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and edge injuries, among other concerns. It really does sound like only one team is going to walk into this game on two feet and that may surprisingly be the Carolina Panthers. Here’s what Brandon had to say.
Panthers activate Taylor Moton, Turk Wharton, Trevor Etienne – PFT
Panthers offensive tackle Taylor Moton is set to make his 2026 debut. Moton returned to practice this week after missing all of training camp and the first weeks of the regular season while recovering from blood clots in his lung. The Panthers announced that he has been activated from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday.
Eagles-Panthers preview: 5 things to watch – PhillyVoice
This is not a great line. Bryce Young has been pressured a whole lot so far this season. The Eagles’ pass rush showed a little life against the Jaguars Week 5. Notably, Jalen Carter had a monster game. If the Eagles are going to “upset” the Panthers, the defensive line is probably going to have to make a few big plays.
NFL Week 6 betting guide: Analysis, best bets and TD predictions – ESPN
Tanner McKee 19+ completions (-101). The Philadelphia Eagles are as decimated of an offense as we’ve seen in the league this season. Three starting linemen from Week 1 are out for this game, as are RB1 Saquon Barkley, WR1 DeVonta Smith and now QB1 Jalen Hurts, who has a blood clot that might keep him out indefinitely. In for Hurts and contending with this depleted roster is backup Tanner McKee, who originally lost the QB2 job out of camp to Andy Dalton. But McKee isn’t a slouch. In two career starts, McKee has 30 and 24 completions. He’s a rhythm pocket passer who knows where to go with the football. The Carolina Panthers have been a stiff pass defense for much of this season by completion percentage, but they’re still down both starting cornerbacks in Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn, and we’ve seen the backups play for only one game in Week 4 before Carolina’s Week 5 bye. It’s still unclear how good Carolina’s secondary will be in the interim. As such, I’m betting on McKee, in what is likely a trailing game script, to take underneath completions, especially with the running back injuries behind Barkley, which should discourage the Eagles from too many handoffs. I’ll be taking alts on completions here up to 24+.
Agent’s Take: Making sense of Eagles’ salary cap manipulation after Lane Johnson’s retirement – CBS Sports
The plan is for the Eagles to delay processing Johnson’s retirement until next June 2 at the earliest. That’s because only the current year’s bonus proration counts toward the salary cap with players released, traded or retiring after June 1. The prorated bonus in future contract years is delayed until the following league year, which typically begins in early to mid-March. By waiting so long to list Johnson as retired, this $42.89 million will be split into $16.614 million of dead money in 2027 and $26.276 million of dead money in 2028. That’s likely what the Eagles were already planning for with Johnson previously stating 2026 would probably be his final season. In this scenario, Johnson’s 2027 dead money is $8.216 million less than his current 2027 cap number. The $16.614 million will be the 2027 prorated amount from Johnson’s 2023 signing bonus and his three option bonuses from 2024, 2025 and 2026. The $26.276 million will be the prorated amount from the three option bonuses in the next three years of Johnson’s contract.
Darius Cooper: ‘Community work is just as important as what I do on the field’ – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Still, Cooper was able to bring it in. You could say that the former Tarleton State Texan has been making crucial catches on the field for the Eagles – which is on brand as the Eagles are promoting the NFL’s Crucial Catch initiative, raising awareness for early cancer detection, ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the Panthers. Earlier this week, Will Shipley, Kenny Moore II, and Tanner McKee visited childhood cancer patients for Crucial Catch, something Cooper has done before. “It’s so important because of the impact and the influence that we have, we just don’t know how much that touched the families of the patients, the patients,” Cooper said. “Just seeing their faces and seeing how happy they were, it made me happy. It’s a good feeling because it’s like we both get something out of it at the end of the day … it’s just a blessing to be a part of that.” With all the headlines about his play, it’s easy to miss what Cooper has been doing in the community. Every Tuesday throughout the NFL season, the Eagles host or take part in a community event. Cooper has already been part of three of these “Community Tuesday” activities and it is only Week 6.
Izzo’s Insights: Former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson recalls the infamous Fargo dinner with Carson Wentz – Inforum
“It’s the reason why we drafted him,” Pederson said.”We had some growing pains that first year. We were 7-9 in Philadelphia, my first year as a head coach, and I made just as many mistakes probably as Carson did, but that second year was just magical. He really had an MVP season, and unfortunately, he got hurt towards the end of that season. He was such an instrumental part of our success that year, and I’ve always appreciated what Carson’s done. He was really my first quarterback as a head coach to draft, and he epitomized everything about Philadelphia. A lot of credit goes to him for the success we had that Super Bowl year.” Pederson is back in Fargo this weekend in the broadcast booth, as he was hired this summer after his coaching stint ended with the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2024 season. Pederson will be calling the game for CBS Sports Network and says NDSU’s FBS transition doesn’t surprise him.

Giants-Saints final injury report: Good news for New York – Big Blue View
The New York Giants got excellent news on the injurt front on Friday. All three starters who had not practiced Wednesday or Thursday — offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor, and edge defender Abdul Carter — were full practice participants on Friday and should be available Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Thomas (groin), Eluemunor (calf), and Carter (calf) are all listed as questionable. They were limited practice participants. Head coach John Harbaugh expects them to play.
Eagles signing Cowboys QB Joe Milton to active roster – Blogging The Boys
Joe Milton really impressed in the preseason and there were fans concerned when he initially did not make Dallas’ own 53-man roster. He cleared waivers though and was signed to the practice squad, and again clearly the Cowboys felt like promoting him themselves right now was not an option at this time. Jaydon Blue is currently on the Eagles’ practice squad so they are racking up some former Cowboys offensive players. It is certainly worth mentioning that Dallas visits Philadelphia a week from Monday night.
Commanders vs. 49ers Saturday injury report: Bill Croskey-Merritt out – Hogs Haven
Running back Bill Croskey-Merritt didn’t practice all week due to a groin injury and won’t be available to play the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. Head coach Dan Quinn ruled him out during his Friday press conference. That’s a blow, considering Croskey Merritt got revved up with a strong performance in a Week 5 tie versus the New York Giants. Quinn said that Croskey-Merritt re-injured the groin originally hurt in August, which makes recovery a bit tougher.
Detroit Lions free up roster spots; place 3 injured players on IR – Pride Of Detroit
On Friday of the Detroit Lions’ bye week, the team announced that they have placed three players on injured reserve: wide receiver/returner Tom Kennedy, offensive lineman Ben Bartch, and [former Eagles] linebacker Devin White. All three players must miss a minimum of the next four weeks but may be out longer due to their injuries.
Bo Nix is the fraud king of the NFL – SB Nation
Nobody in the NFL is like Bo Nix when it comes to masquerading as a decent player while putting up some of the most godawful performances imaginable. The fraud-king of football, Nix has coasted along on the back of innovative offensive playmaking and a brilliant Broncos defense to create the perception that he’s better than average, when in reality he’s so poor that when Denver falls apart this season — and they will, he will be the sole reason for their demise. Nix is putting up a legendary season when it comes to futility. Through six games he’s averaging just 4.9 air yards per attempt, and on Thursday Night Football his longest completion traveled 7.6 yards through the air. The Broncos QB was 0-for-3 on pass attempts longer than 10 yards, with a passing chart that would be embarrassing in a game of beach football, let alone the NFL.
