Fresh off a 42-10 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, the Wisconsin Badgers are hitting the road to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 3, with kickoff set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Wisconsin had its first blowout of the season last week, but it didn’t come without its challenges. The Badgers had a slower first half, leading only 14-10 at halftime before exploding in the second half with four consecutive scoring drives to ultimately win by 32.
Sophomore quarterback
Danny O’Neil impressed in his first start with the Badgers, tossing for a record 283 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception on 23-of-27 passing. On the ground, Wisconsin ultimately ran for 153 yards, but struggled to generate yards with its backs, as the trio of Dilin Jones, Darrion Dupree, and Cade Yacamelli ran for under four yards per carry.
Defensively, the Badgers got to the quarterback with five sacks, but surprisingly gave up a few explosives on 1-on-1 passing plays, which led to Middle Tennessee’s scoring opportunities
Now, they’ll take on an Alabama team that had an ugly Week 1, losing 31-17 on the road to the Florida State Seminoles before bouncing back in a 73-0 blowout of UL-Monroe last weekend.
Currently, FanDuel Sportsbook has the Badgers as 20.5-point underdogs, with the over/under at 45.5 points. Let’s get into some fun predictions for the game.
Prop Predictions
After a rough Week 1, we bounced back with our prop predictions last week, going 2-1. The first half total of under 24.5 points just hit, as the final total ended up being 24 points at halftime.
Wisconsin also easily cleared the 12.5-point second-half spread, but the overall game total of 45.5 points was met, rather than going under. I expected the slow start before the second-half turnaround and thought Wisconsin would get to around 35-38 points in a comfortable win. They cleared that bar with another touchdown, hitting the over.
With a 2-1 week last week, let’s look to keep it going with some more props in Week 3.
Prop 1: Germie Bernard O67.5 receiving yards
Alabama will get its fair share of 1-on-1 opportunities to its receivers if Wisconsin’s defense has a similar look to how it’s been the first two weeks. So naturally, I’m taking the over on lead wideout Germie Bernard’s receiving total.
Yes, Ryan Williams is back for Alabama. And both could see a healthy amount of volume come their way. But, Bernard had eight catches for 146 yards on 11 targets in the opener before catching three passes for 67 yards last weekend when Williams was out.
He runs the most routes on the team, and I think Alabama will look to him in some of those 1-on-1 situations.
Prop 2: Isaiah Horton O26.5 receiving yards
The Crimson Tide has Ryan Williams back. But, Isaiah Horton was the “starter” in two-receiver sets in Week 1 for Alabama, and only had 11 snaps before a hip injury ruled him out of the game.
He assumed a regular workload in Week 2, running the most routes of any wideout on the team against UL-Monroe, catching three passes for 51 yards. His 6’4, 208-pound frame provides a mismatch over any Wisconsin cornerback, and I think Alabama will take advantage of that on a few plays on Saturday.
Give me his over as well for the Crimson Tide.
