Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Football!
Tuesday afternoon, Mizzou football held its weekly media and for the first time this season, it followed a loss.
Drinkwitz began his media availability by saying
he is excited to get back to work and face the challenge of going on the road in the SEC.
Drinkwitz had a positive mindset on Tuesday, emphasizing that the Tigers put in a lot of effort and fought really hard against Alabama.
“But we’ve got to find that winning play,” Drinkwitz said.
Drinkwitz took a lot of time to pride Aubrun.
“They’re a very good defensive football team, which allows them to always have an opportunity to be in the game.”
The (Missouri) Tigers have a major test at Jordan Hare Stadium against the (Auburn) Tigers. No matter the result, this is going to be a big impact down the road on which bowl game Mizzou ends up making.
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums. Most recently, there’s discussion on the Mizzou at Vanderbilt kick-off time on October 25th, and Mizzou flips three-star safety Carter Stewart from Utah & Brody Jones from Cincinnati.

After checking in at No. 28 in the KenPom rankings on Sunday, Mizzou Basketball received votes in the preseason AP Top 25 poll that was released yesterday. The Tigers are nine spots outside the rankings slotted at No. 34.
Per Dennis Gates at media availability on Monday, this is the highest preseason KenPom ranking in over 10 years. Pretty exciting considering the best is yet to come as the Tigers have big time recruits coming over the next couple of years.
With increased playing time came increased production in almost every facet of the game. And while defense has been his calling card since high school, (Anthony) Robinson made a major leap in terms of volume on offense. His free-throw rate skyrocketed, and he nearly tripled his points per game total from his freshman season.
Robinson is poised for a great season and some are even calling him a breakout candidate. A little interesting as I thought that was last year but I guess we will see! In my eyes, a breakout for Anthony Robinson II would mean he has to be one of the best point guards in the country.
To betray myself for a second, I enjoy Bullet Train way more than I enjoyed Mizzou’s 27-24 loss to Alabama last weekend. I’m not even sure I can categorize them in the same “kicking back, having a good time” vein. And you best believe I’d much rather watch Brad Pitt stumble his way through a Drunken Fist, psuedo-zen assassin part than peek through my fingers at another Beau Pribula floating interception.
That’s one way to describe the football game, Josh. All jokes aside, great movie.
Alabama was held to:
Lowest total passing yards of the year
Lowest passing success rate of the year
2nd-lowest rushing success rate of the year
Lowest yard per scoring-opportunity of the year
It was so bad that they gambled on a running back returning from injury to carry the rock more than they had ever had in a single game to negate a terrorizing pass rush. It was a huge gamble but it worked. Barely.
Nobody can take away Mizzou’s performance against Alabama. The College Football Playoff Committee doesn’t take close losses to good teams into big effect when making decisions. The season is far from over.
Our rankings might have Ole Miss lower than most but I think the general feeling here is that Chris Beard will figure it out. If you’re the gambling type that’s been a safer bet than most. Beard has gotten to where he’s at by figuring it out. But I’d feel better if I were looking at this roster and just saw fewer question marks and more answers on both sides of the ball.
I like this take. I think Ole Miss has a lot of proving to do before they quite jump into the high tide of the SEC. Pretty similar to Mizzou but I’d say the Tigers have a little more coming back than the Rebels.
(Damon Wilson) On the team’s culture: “It feels like an underdog culture, knowing that people kind of doubt us and don’t really believe in us. But we believe in us, and that’s really all that matters. A bunch of guys come together, I mean, we just work hard, and that’s one of the things: we’re always doing extra stuff.”
#STP. Real talk, this is the mentality you need to bounce back from a tough loss. Nonetheless, all that matters is what happens on the field Saturday.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion in forums ahead of Auburn, and basketball discussion ahead of the season.
Dive Cuts film breakdown: Jevon Porter of Mizzou Basketball
