The vast majority of Maryland men’s basketball fans would have thought Derik Queen would be the biggest Maryland rookie story in the NBA this season. Enter the last month of Julian Reese.
Reese signed out of the G-League with the Washington Wizards on a two-way contract in late February. And he continues to take advantage.
The Baltimore native posted his third double-double in nine career games Sunday in a loss to the Brooklyn Nets, with 17 points and 16 rebounds. He’s the fastest player to 100 career rebounds since
Shaquille O’Neal.
Reese hasn’t played enough to qualify for stat leaderboards, but if he did, he’d be one of just nine players in the NBA averaging a double-double (10.8 points, 11.3 rebounds per game). Reese has left no doubt that he’s got a future in the league — and perhaps a long-term future.
