Chicago had an amazing performance from its offense, putting up 59 points and earning the team its first win of the season. These sorts of things get noticed, and so it’s not surprising that a pair of Chicago Bears have been nominated for the FedEx Air and Ground players of the week.
As of Monday afternoon, Caleb Williams has the highest QBR (94.9) and EPA (12.3) of any quarterback in the league, and his passer rating and adjusted net yards per attempt are also in the Top 5. Therefore, despite the absurdity
of a few holdouts and skeptics (like a certain pseudoscientific rating service), it’s not too surprising that the Iceman is nominated for the weekly air player award. Here, his primary competition is Josh Allen—who amusingly enough had two rushing touchdowns, just like Caleb.
The other Chicago candidate is, of course, D’Andre Swift. Swift was recently extended by Chicago, and he rewarded their confidence with 134 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. Swift was an absolute monster blocking for Chicago, as well, and his place being nominated alongside Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs is well-earned.
There were many who had doubts when Ben Johnson said that he wanted to have the highest-scoring offense in NFL history, but behind QB1 and RB1, the Bears have gotten out to a significant headstart on that goal.
