Michigan four-star quarterback commit Kamden Lopati is a family guy.
He takes pride in the values that are synonymous with putting loved ones over oneself and keeping those who’ve supported his journey to donning the maize and blue next year close to the hip. So, understanding that, putting two-and-two together to analyze his trip to Annapolis, Maryland over the weekend isn’t complicated.
Lopati is coming off an official visit to Navy. It’s the lone scheduled excursion he plans to take outside his
Victor’s Weekend arrival in Ann Arbor on June 19-21. How this affects the Wolverines and them holding on his pledge doesn’t have a foot to stand on. Expectations are still for him to sign with U-M come the early signing day.
But why did he spend a few days with the service academy? The simple answer is because of family.
The Midshipmen are a team Lopati yields deep roots with due to his older brother, Karson, currently with the program. Along with getting quality time at a place his brother chose to play for when he was a recruit, the younger Lopati also reunited with Karson’s teammates, who he got to know when Karson was undergoing the recruiting process.
As The Wolverine reported back when Lopati announced his flip from Illinois in April, Lopati had the official visit on the docket. It speaks to his character for keeping it on the itinerary despite being locked in with Michigan. It also honors what being a part of the Navy community means for an individual’s principles, as father Keith explained.
“The reason for the visit is his older brother Karson Lopati is part of Naval Academy team. Kam has developed great relationships with a few of the Midshipman players on the team as well,” the elder Lopati told On3’s Ethan McDowell. “We felt as a family that it is an honor for the opportunity for Kam to be visiting the Naval Academy and be able to spend time with his brother and his Midshipman teammates who Kam continues to learn from them valuable lessons of leadership skills from people who will be serving and protecting our country in the near future.”
McDowell also wrote that Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham and the staff were supportive of that official visit and didn’t waver about Lopati going.
Next up for Lopati is his return to Ann Arbor on June 19, where he will be busy building strong rapports with the 2027 class, garnering further chemistry with quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. and offensive coordinator Jason Beck, as well as peer recruiting the arguably top remaining target in four-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant.
At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, Lopati is listed as the No. 15 overall quarterback in the country and the No. 2 prospect in Utah, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
