Jake Ferguson added to NFC Pro Bowl roster – Nick Eatman, DallasCowboys.com
Dallas gets its sixth Pro Bowler of the 2025 season.
FRISCO, Texas – Tight end Jake Ferguson, who had career-highs in receptions and touchdowns in 2025, has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster as an alternate,
replacing 49ers TE George Kittle.
The Cowboys are getting a sixth Pro Bowler to the NFC squad as tight end Jake Ferguson has been added to the roster as an alternate.
The NFL announced the news Wednesday morning, stating Ferguson will replace 49ers tight end George Kittle, who was injured in the postseason. The other NFC tight end is Arizona’s Trey McBride.
The five other Cowboys selection to the Pro Bowl this season were Dak Prescott, George Pickens, Tyler Smith, Quinnen Williams and Brandon Aubrey.
Ferguson earns his second career Pro Bowl selection after having his best statistical season in 2025. He becomes the fifth Cowboys tight end in franchise history to have multiple Pro Bowl selections, joining Jason Witten (11), Jay Novacek (5) and Billy Joe DuPree (3).
Five free agents the Cowboys should retain: Star receiver, ace kicker and more – Calvin Watkins, Dallas Morning News
The Cowboys will be active when it comes to bringing back their in-house free agents.
Jadeveon Clowney, DE: He was signed two weeks into the season and led the team with 8 1/2 sacks. He’s a valuable veteran who gained instant respect in the locker room for his work on and off the field. If he returns, he’ll be 33. What kind of value do you place on that for a player who should be a third-down specialist but emerged as a starter on a bad defense in 2025.
Javonte Williams, RB: He set career-highs in nearly every category for a running back: attempts (252), yards (1,201), rushing touchdowns (11) and yards from scrimmage (1,338). A two- or three-year deal is reasonable for Williams, and if Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah progress in Year 2, you might have a respectable running back room.
George Pickens, WR: The Pro Bowler set career highs with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. What was impressive was his 67.9% catch rate. Now his lateness to meetings, missing the team bus for a game and questions about effort are things you can’t ignore. But he’s with the right team that embraces all of his quirks.
Cowboys, Jerry Jones have one advantage in competitive defensive coordinator search – RJ Ochoa, Blogging The Boys
There’s no reason why the Cowboys can’t get the defensive coordinator that they want.
The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable professional sports team in the world. They are worth an absurd amount of money. It is sometimes noted how that the Cowboys are shy about spending in free agency with regards to their overall worth, and that obviously is void of any kind of context as the team, like their 31 counterparts in the NFL, have to operate within the defined salary cap.
We can save discussions for how the Cowboys can still afford (no pun intended) to be more active in free agency for another day, but on this one we are talking about how they currently have an opportunity to weaponize their value, both their financial one and the subsequent opportunities that are born from being associated with them.
Ed Werder really crystallized this with an X post on Tuesday as he noted that the candidates who Brian Schottenheimer seems to be targeting for the vacant defensive coordinator position are all young and popular candidates who have interest elsewhere.
Oftentimes when matters like this come up in the NFL the tiebreaker can be who is going to pay the most. We have accepted that the Cowboys tend to lose this tiebreaker in free agency because they won’t go past a certain point, but no such limit exists with regards to coaches. They can write all of the blank checks they want.
Dallas Cowboys Face RB2 Debate Entering NFL Offseason – Dustin Lewis, Cowboys On SI
Who will be the primary backup running back in Dallas in 2026?
There are multiple candidates on the roster who could fill the role.
The obvious one is fifth-year running back Malik Davis, who served as the primary backup for much of the season. Davis is a restricted free agent, and the Cowboys should be able to keep him around if they want him back.
Davis put together the best performance of his career in his final outing of the season, racking up 20 carries for 103 yards in the Christmas Day win over the Washington Commanders. He suffered calf and eye injuries that forced him out of the regular-season finale.
Meanwhile, Jaydon Blue saw action in five games during his rookie campaign, rushing 38 times for 129 yards and a touchdown. Blue only averaged 3.4 yards per carry, but could make a leap ahead of his second season in the league.
Others names to make note of include Miles Sanders, Hunter Luepke, and Phil Mafah.
