The first few weeks of the Fantasy Premier League season are all about finding patterns before everyone else does.
By Gameweek 4, we have enough information to start separating genuine form from one-week flukes. At the same time, ownership is beginning to create a clear template, with players like Erling Haaland, João Pedro and Bruno Fernandes already sitting in a huge percentage of squads.
That makes this the perfect time to look beyond the obvious names. If you’re trying to climb your mini-league,
chase a higher overall rank, or simply want a player capable of delivering points that most of your rivals don’t have, these are some of the best low-owned FPL options to consider for Gameweek 4.
1. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – Everton
Price: £6.5m
Ownership: Around 4%
Position: Midfielder
GW4 fixture: Tottenham (A)
Dewsbury-Hall is exactly the type of player I like as a differential. He isn’t flashy enough to dominate the FPL conversation, but his role for Everton gives him several ways to contribute. At around 4% ownership, he’s also low enough to make a meaningful difference to your rank if he produces a big return.
The bigger attraction is his price. At £6.5m, Dewsbury-Hall doesn’t need to produce premium-player numbers to justify his place. A goal or assist combined with bonus points can quickly turn him into one of the week’s better midfield values.
His ownership remains surprisingly low despite being highlighted as one of the stronger differential midfield options for this gameweek.
2. Igor Jesus – Nottingham Forest
Price: £5.9m
Ownership: Around 3%
Position: Forward
GW4 fixture: Aston Villa (A)
If you’re looking for a genuine rank-chasing pick, Igor Jesus deserves attention. He’s owned by only around 3% of FPL managers, but his underlying attacking numbers are much more interesting than that ownership suggests.
The fixture against Aston Villa isn’t ideal, so this isn’t a recommendation based purely on fixture difficulty. Instead, it’s about backing the player’s individual attacking threat before ownership catches up. That’s what a good differential should do.
3. Kevin Schade – Brentford
Price: £6.0m
Ownership: Around 4%
Position: Midfielder
GW4 fixture: Bournemouth (A)
Schade is another player who can quietly become very useful. The Brentford midfielder has started all three games and has already scored once this season. His Gameweek 2 goal against Leeds showed the attacking upside that comes with his role, even though he blanked against Sunderland in GW3.
The important part is minutes. Schade has averaged close to 90 minutes in Brentford’s opening games, giving him a much safer route to points than many players in this price bracket. At only around 4% ownership, he also offers genuine differential potential.
The downside is that Brentford’s upcoming run isn’t perfect, so this isn’t a player I’d buy simply because he’s cheap.
4. Anton Stach – Leeds United
Price: £6.0m
Ownership: Around 3%
Position: Midfielder
GW4 fixture: Newcastle (H)
Stach is the kind of player who can easily fly under the radar. Leeds have an interesting run of fixtures, and Stach’s low ownership makes him particularly appealing to managers who want to move away from the template.
The important distinction here is that he’s not being recommended because he’s suddenly become a premium FPL asset. At £6.0m, the expectation should be modest.
You’re looking for an occasional attacking return, bonus points and consistent starts — with the possibility of a bigger haul when the circumstances line up.
5. Nikola Milenković – Nottingham Forest
Price: £5.5m
Ownership: Around 2%
Position: Defender
GW4 fixture: Aston Villa (A)
Milenković gives us a different type of differential. Instead of chasing attacking returns, we’re looking for defensive points and the possibility of bonus or defensive-contribution points.
At ownership lower than 2%, he is one of the more interesting genuinely low-owned defenders in the game. One clean sheet and a strong defensive performance could immediately make him a useful rank-climber.
Forest’s fixture against Villa isn’t an obvious clean-sheet target, which is the main concern. But that’s also why the ownership is so low.
6. Tarik Muharemović – Leeds United
Price: £5.0m
Ownership: Around 3%
Position: Defender
GW4 fixture: Newcastle (H)
Muharemović is another defender worth keeping on the radar. He’s around 3% owned and has a favorable run coming up, although Gameweek 4 itself isn’t completely straightforward against Newcastle.
The appeal is more about the combination of price, ownership and upcoming fixtures than expecting an immediate monster haul. At £5.0m, he can also help free up funds for premium attackers elsewhere in your squad.
He’s a particularly interesting option for managers building a squad around three or four expensive attackers.
7. Steve Botman – Newcastle United
Price: £5.0m
Ownership: Below 1%
Position: Defender
GW4 fixture: Leeds (A)
If you want to go really aggressive, Botman is the type of player to consider. His ownership is extremely low, which means a strong defensive run could create a significant rank swing for managers who own him.
Newcastle also have a run of fixtures that makes their defensive assets interesting beyond Gameweek 4. The obvious problem is that Newcastle travel to Leeds in GW4, so this isn’t necessarily the week to expect a huge clean-sheet haul.
Still, if you’re looking beyond one gameweek, Botman is an intriguing option.
8. Tzolakis – Hull City
Price: £4.6m
Ownership: Around 9%
Position: Goalkeeper
GW4 fixture: Chelsea (A)
Goalkeepers rarely generate the same excitement as attacking differentials, but Tzolakis is worth mentioning. He’s currently sitting at roughly 9% ownership and has been among the better-scoring goalkeepers early in the season.
The problem is the Gameweek 4 matchup: Hull travel to Chelsea. That makes him difficult to recommend as an immediate starter.
However, if you already own him, there is a case for keeping him and using your other goalkeeper depending on your squad structure.
Don’t Confuse a Differential with a Gamble. This is probably the most important point. You don’t need five or six differentials in your FPL squad. In fact, loading your team with low-owned players simply because they’re low-owned can be a fast way to destroy a good start.
The goal is to find one or two players who have a realistic chance of outperforming their ownership.
In summary, Gameweek 4 is an interesting point in the season because the FPL template is starting to take shape. Players like Haaland, João Pedro, Bruno Fernandes and other heavily owned assets provide protection, but differentials are where managers can create separation.
For me, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is the standout differential of the group, while Igor Jesus offers perhaps the biggest upside for managers willing to take a bigger swing.
Kevin Schade is another name I like, particularly for his combination of price and playing time. The key, though, is not to chase differentials just for the sake of being different. Pick the player you believe can score the most points — then enjoy the rank boost if everyone else doesn’t have him.
