A couple of new injuries popped up on the Green Bay Packers’ first injury report of the week, despite head coach Matt LaFleur stating that there were no long-term injuries sustained in the Packers’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Beyond what was reported during the game, like cornerback Brandon Cisse’s cramps, both defensive lineman Javon Hargrave (who was already on the injury report with a knee injury) and edge defender Lukas Van Ness were given concussion designations by the team.
Both
Hargrave and Van Ness played into the fourth quarter, with Hargrave even being on the field for the last play of the game (a kneel-down). Neither was reported to have concussions during or coming out of the game.
Overall, the only player who was a non-participant in practice today was defensive lineman Warren Brinson (calf), who missed Week 1’s action with his injury. The following players were also limited on Wednesday, along with the players who have concussions: LG Aaron Banks (knee), RT Zach Bako-Bewele (knee), DL Devonte Wyatt (ankle), ED Barryn Sorrell (foot) and LB Ty’Ron Hopper (Achilles). Banks and Hopper did not play against the Vikings, so their situations will be interesting to monitor, as the Packers are staring down two games in five days over the next two weeks.
Green Bay’s next opponent, the New York Jets, are pretty banged up already. Receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle) and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin) are expected to miss Sunday’s game and were non-participants today. Other non-participants due to injury are running back/returner Kene Nwangwu (back) and edge defender Joseph Ossai (foot), who both did not play in Week 1.
Limited participants in practice for New York were cornerback D’Angelo Ponds (calf) and linebacker Jamien Sherwood (knee). Ponds, like Nwangwu and Ossai, was inactive in the Jets’ win over the Tennessee Titans.
