You have to hand it to Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović — the guy has principles.
When he was approached by Manchester City over the summer, the 22-year-old burgeoning star could have leveraged that interest into getting himself a raise at Bayern Munich. Many players have gone this route in football before Pavlović and some have succeeded in getting a more lucrative contract extension.
For the Germany international, that kind of tactic was just not in the cards per Sport Bild’s Julian Agardi:
Aleksandar Pavlović is under contract at FC Bayern until 2029 and earns around €8m gross per year. Despite Manchester City’s concrete interest in the summer, Pavlović did not try to take advantage of that to renegotiate better terms with Bayern – which shows that he has a very special connection with his boyhood club. Pavlović’s Bayern contract terms remain unchanged.
BFW Commentary
Sometimes, there is no need to celebrate doing the right thing. In this case, though, Pavlović had two options to make his life significantly better financially, yet chose to stay on this journey with Bayern Munich — without risking his currently good relationship with the club.
Maybe one day Pavlović will seek to move on, but for now, fans can truly appreciate a player who is committed to the club.
