The first head coach firing of 2025 is here.
On Monday, the Tennessee Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan following a 1-5 start to the season, as reported by ESPN’s Turron Davenport. The Seattle Seahawks
are set to take on the Titans at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium in Week 12.
Callahan’s firing comes just one day after a loss to Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders, who led by as many as 17 points in the game. The Raiders were up 10-0 at halftime, with former Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith throwing his seventh touchdown pass of the season near the end of the first half. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Las Vegas, the team’s first victory since beating the New England Patriots back in Week 1.
On the other side, Tennessee faced its fourth multi-score loss this season, the most by any team thus far. Under Callahan, the team’s point differential fell to -78, good for 31st in the league.
Across one-plus seasons with the Titans, Callahan finished with a record of 4-19 (.174), the worst mark by a Tennessee head coach since Ken Whisenhunt went 3-20 (.130) from 2014 to 2015. Through the first six weeks of the 2025 season, the Titans’ offense ranks last in the league in yards per play (3.9) and next-to-last in points per game (13.8). Tennessee’s defense was not much better under Callahan, ranking 26th in points allowed/game (26.8) and 22nd in yards allowed/game (343.3).
Prior to succeeding Mike Vrabel as Tennessee’s head coach, Callahan served as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019 to 2023. While there, Callahan’s offense ranked 7th in points scored in both 2021 and 2022, thanks in large part due to Joe Burrow throwing for over 30 touchdowns in both seasons and winning AP Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2021.
The Titans have yet to name an interim head coach to replace the fired Callahan.
