Deco has played down tension between Barcelona and Spain over Lamine Yamal’s recent injury on international duty.
Hansi Flick made it clear he was not at all happy with Spain’s treatment of Yamal after
he returned to his club side and missed four games through injury.
There has been speculation that Barcelona want to stop Yamal being called up for the next two World Cup qualifiers
but Deco has tried to calm things down.“There’s no tension; we have to take advantage of things to improve, not to continue talking and creating controversy where there isn’t any. The Spanish national team is important for Barça and Barça is important for the national team,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“The fact that so many players are being called up from our team means that things are being done well here. The fact that we have so many players in the best, or one of the best, national teams in the world is something that makes us proud.
“There’s no controversy with the Federation; the things that needed to be discussed have already been discussed. I spoke with Karanka and what we’re going to do is improve protocols and communication. Once the player is in the national team, the coach will decide. We don’t want any controversy with the Federation. Communication is good; maybe there was some detail that failed there.”
Yet Deco did admit he could understand why Flick was so frustrated with the situation with Yamal.
“I’m Flick and Lamine comes to me and he can’t play in the next games, and I’d be angry. Just like if I’m De la Fuente and I want to win games, I put Lamine in,” he added.
“It’s something historic and that’s how it is. The big problem is that every game there is The selection process, which is numerous, is now official. What we need to do is improve communication so things flow. There’s no problem.”
Luis de la Fuente is due to name his next Spain squad on Friday for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria.
