Harry Kane does not often get enough credit for the stability he has built away from football, and the Bayern Munich striker believes that stability has played a major role in his success.
Kane opened up about the importance of having his family around him, particularly for young players trying to navigate the pressures that come with professional football.
“I don’t think people talk enough about how important family stability is in professional football, especially when we’re talking about young players.
It’s really important. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have found my wife, who I actually went to school with, and to have my parents, my brother and my in-laws here as well. I know it’s not always like that for everyone, because every person has a different situation,” Kane told Marca’s Juan Castro (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “But I think when you’re happy off the pitch, when you’re settled and life is going well, that carries over into being happy on the pitch. So I’m extremely grateful for everything they do for me and for the support they give me. Everything I do, I try to do as a team with them. They are my biggest support.”
There is something refreshing about Kane acknowledging that success is not just about training harder, scoring more goals, or constantly pushing yourself to improve. Having people around you who provide stability, perspective, and support can be just as important — especially when the spotlight becomes as intense as it has for Kane.
From Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich, England, and now the Ballon d’Or conversation, Kane has experienced plenty of pressure throughout his career. Having his family alongside him has clearly helped him remain grounded through it all.
For Kane, football may be his career, but he sees his journey as something his family is experiencing right alongside him.
