Football fashion is fast becoming a staple in streetwear, and the World Cup is an excellent opportunity to showcase the participating nations’ threads for the whole world to see. Some take our breath away, others make us turn our noses up. This piece will cover five of the former, plus a few honorable mentions. Enjoy!
5. Japan Away
As good as they have become at football, Japan’s national sport remains baseball, and they paid homage to it with this gorgeous number. Multicolored yet subtle pinstripes line a clean,
white background, making it a nice kit to wear on and off the pitch. Japan’s kits have been very good over the past few years, and this one is no exception to that trend. If anything, it elevates it.
4. South Korea Home
The Taegeuk Warriors showed up in a design that evokes both the mountainous regions of the Korean peninsula and the tigers that once inhabited them. Paired with black shorts for the first time since 2019, the overall look is passionate, courageous, and fit for the Pride of Asia. Whether you hail from the Land of the Morning Calm or not, this is a nice kit.
3. Canada Away
Black ice may be a nightmare for drivers, but on this shirt, it makes for one heck of a design. Hints of frost that trace the Canadian maple leaves adorn the jet black background, with dark red trim completing a very smart looking kit indeed. While it does little to capture the warmth of the Canadian people, it does capture the stark cold winters of the joint-hosts. Alphonso Davies finally has a kit to match his skill.
2. Mexico Home
Yes, most people will put this as their first, and for good reason. The pattern on the front perfectly encapsulates the country’s culture and its pride in it. The dark green color makes it stand out, but not in an excessive way. A perfect balance of subtle and loud, the shirt is just what the fans of the joint-hosts were hoping for. Add that to a potentially successful tournament, and it could go down in history and cult folklore.
Honorable Mentions
USA Home
A perfect image of the Star Spangled Banner flowing in the wind. God bless America.
Norway Away
It is very hard to go wrong with blackout kits, and this one is no exception.
Argentina Away
Blue waves on a navy/black background. The world champions are not to be trifled with in fashion either.
USA Away
Blackout with subtle stars and thin stripes. America isn’t playing about this time.
1. Germany Home
Yes, this writer is biased, but can you blame him? A perfect blend of the World Cup winning kits from 1990 and 2014. A simple design, but one that works so well. Typical black and white lined with the black, red and gold of the Bundesflagge, a flawless combination of the past and present, and one that just screams “Deutschland” without even trying. This is Germany’s best home kit since 2014. Perhaps the memories of 1990 and 2014 will help the team become world champions for the fifth time? Time will tell.
So there you have it! What is your favorite kit at this World Cup? Let us know in the comments!
