Vincent Kompany has guided his Bayern Munich side to a another big win against an annoying opponent in SC Freiburg. The 6-2 victory was followed by another small win in VK’s attitude regarding expectations
from Lennart Karl. The manager provided an insight into how Bayern is handling the growing hype of the 17 year-old.
Hype is…okay
Having played at the highest level himself, Kompany has seen the hype around several youngsters and is well aware of its weight in the sport. After the game against Freiburg in which Karl scored a goal and assisted another, Kompany revealed that hype is normal and to be expected.
VK declared that the club would be playing a strong supportive role to help Karl succeed and be there to catch him when things don’t work out. “It’s very important that he enjoys this moment. If there’s a lot of hype, then that’s okay. It’s all from outside. He just has to keep his entourage and enjoy football. And when things don’t work out for him, we’ll support him” said Kompany ( as captured by @iMiaSanMia)
The next Messi or the next Musiala?
Karl is already donning the 42 squad number which previously belonged to Jamal Musiala. With Musiala being a serial dribbler who also drew comparisons to Lionel Messi shares some similar traits with Karl. As a result, comparisons to Messi are inevitable with any emerging player who are powerful dribblers. This applies to Karl too, especially with Lionel Messi being his idol.
However, Kompany played off such comparisons and would rather let Karl turn out be the best version of himself. “Comparisons with Messi? Lenny is Lenny. It’s not about comparing him to other players. We want him to become the best version of Lennart Karl he can be” said the Bayern manager.
