Newcastle United have stepped up their interest in La Liga winger Abde Ezzalzouli, with Chronicle Live reporting that club scouts attended two Real Betis matches last month as Eddie Howe ramps up the search for an Anthony Gordon replacement.
According to the report, Newcastle representatives watched Ezzalzouli against Real Oviedo and Elche, with the Morocco international impressing in both outings. He scored a goal and an assist against Oviedo as Betis secured another important victory.
The 24-year-old
has emerged as one of Newcastle’s leading options following Gordon’s £70million move to Barcelona. Ezzalzouli enjoyed an impressive season in Spain, helping Betis qualify for the Champions League while recording 15 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances.
Chronicle Live reports that Betis are fully aware of Newcastle’s interest, although no formal offer had been submitted as of last weekend. That said, the outlet states that Newcastle could submit a £51million bid, matching the release clause in his contract, and thus leaving no other option for Betis than to accept the offer.
Newcastle, however, face competition from several clubs, including fellow Premier League sides Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Barcelona player has produced 41 goals and 27 assists across 219 senior appearances and will join Morocco’s squad for their trip to the 2026 World Cup this summer.
With Newcastle aiming to conclude business early this summer, the scouting trips could suggest that Ezzalzouli is a player being seriously considered, with his release clause not so gaudy as to rule out an imminent move.
