Drew Dober delivered another vicious knockout after he flattened Michael Johnson in the second round at UFC 326 on Saturday.
Already a record-holder for the most knockouts in UFC lightweight history, Dober picked up No. 11 after he launched a right hand and followed with a devastating left hook behind it that twisted Johnson’s head around and sent him crashing to the canvas. Dober landed one more punch but it was already over as the referee rushed in to save Johnson with the end of the fight coming
at 1:53 in the second round.
“I’m extremely happy but much love goes to Michael Johnson and his team,” Dober said afterwards. “I was scared shitless coming in here. All it is, is accuracy. I have that punching power as a gift. It took me two rounds to find it.”
In a battle of lightweight veterans, Johnson chipped away at Dober early with some stiff leg kicks and then came over the top with a lightning quick straight punch that connected clean. A big exchange allowed Dober to land a hard left hook that backed Johnson off momentarily.
As time passed, Dober was starting to pick up on Johnson’s patterns and it allowed him to find a home for more of his punches to the head and body. But not to be deterred, Johnson fired right back with another series of straight punches that found a home on Dober’s chin.
When the second round got started, Dober was once again picking up on Johnson’s habits and that set up the perfect combination to end the fight. With Johnson looking for an opening of his own, Dober threw a right followed by a vicious left behind it and that ended the fight in jaw-dropping fashion.
The win served as Dober’s second victory in a row as he adds another veteran to his resume after knocking out Johnson on Saturday.
