Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has unsurprisingly been quizzed on Julian Alvarez following the close of the summer transfer window.
Alvarez made it clear he wanted to leave the club at World Cup 2026, but Atletico refused to sell the forward to Barcelona.
The forward missed training in the final days of the transfer window but is now back with the group and will be in the squad for Atletico’s next game.
Simeone says that Alvarez also now has the chance to try and learn from the experience, with
fans angry at the player due to his desire to leave.
“He’s training very well, he’ll be called up tomorrow, he’ll be part of the group that travels to Bilbao and we’re hoping for the best from him and all his teammates,” he told a news conference.
“I’m very clear about it: for me, life is full of opportunities. And Julián now has an opportunity to get things right. We often spend our time judging, and we need to focus on doing it less and learning more.
“I hope this has been a learning experience for him. And that he’s happy, and as Futre, whom I send a hug to, told him yesterday in a nice video, that he does it by scoring goals.”
There has been speculation that Simeone is “absolutely furious” with Alvarez, but the pair must now work together, at least until January when the Barcelona rumors are likely to fire up once again.
