It’s been quite an eventful week for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 30-27, and enter tonight’s matchup with the Cleveland Browns as 2.5-point favorites, per FanDuel Sportsbook. Despite the big win, though, fans don’t seem to be excited about what the Steelers’ future holds.
We ran a survey here at SB Nation over the last week asking fans if they have faith in the direction the Steelers are going in, to which only seven percent of people voted yes.
A win on Thursday night
slots Pittsburgh in sole possession of first place (3-1) in the AFC North entering the weekend. Despite this, many long-term questions marks remain with the offensive line and how to replace star cornerback Joey Porter Jr.
The Steelers traded Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys late Wednesday night for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick. A secondary still missing DeShon Elliott and dealing with Jalen Ramsey’s broken wrist faces additional question marks with Porter Jr. officially off the team.
Led by Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers offense ranks 17th in total offense (329 yards per game) but 26th in scoring (17.7). They are a bottom-five offense on third down (32.4%) and still don’t have an identified franchise quarterback waiting in the wings, unless Drew Allar takes the next step.
Much pessimism likely stems from a nine-year drought without a playoff win and a roster similar to that of a year ago. General Manager Omar Khan hasn’t guided the Steelers to much success, and the confidence index for Steelers fans continues to waver around the nation.
