Owen Hargreaves, former Bayern Munich player and Englishman, says Harry Kane is the rightful winner for the Ballon d’Or but also named another player he wouldn’t mind winning:
“There are a few contenders, but you can’t say which one of them clearly stands out”, Hargreaves started.” (Christopher Michel as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “Harry Kane played incredibly well for FC Bayern and, of course, won the league. His goalscoring record was simply unbelievable – the number of goals he scored.
Of course, he also had a very, very good World Cup, a strong World Cup where he scored a lot of goals. England finished third in that tournament – I mean, who else could it be?
“I thought Rodri was outstanding” the 45-year-old added. “He won both cup titles with Manchester City (FA Cup and Carabao Cup). He won the World Cup and was probably the best player in the tournament. If I were to vote, it would come down to these two players.”
Harry Kane came off a blistering season for club and country in the 2025/26 season. He helped Bayern Munich to a league and cup double and spearheaded England’s run to a bronze medal in the 2026 World Cup. Rodri’s trophy haul might look more appealing, but Kane could make a case for himself with the impact he has on Bayern and England.
