There was a lot of excitement when Cameron Seldon transferred to the Virginia Tech Hokies from Tennessee last winter. The Heathsville, Virginia, native played high school football at Northumberland High
School and was the No. 77 player in the nation in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Seldon was the No. 1 overall player from Virginia in his class.
The 6-foot-1, 211-pound Seldon played running back during his two seasons at Tennessee. He transferred to Virginia Tech and moved to wide receiver in 2025. There was hope that Seldon would develop into a Deebo Samuel-like weapon on offense for the Hokies last season, but the unit was a mess. Whether it was coaching, scheme, or quarterback play, VT’s 2025 offense never gained traction. The coordinator who helped bring Seldon to Virginia Tech, Tyler Bowen, left in February and was replaced by Philip Montgomery.
Seldon appeared in 11 games for the Hokies, catching 23 passes for 165 yards (7.2 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. Seldon also carried the ball seven times for 28 yards. He also returned four kicks for 54 yards.
During his two years at Tennessee, Seldon rushed for 224 yards on 48 carries (4.7 ypc) and one touchdown. He only caught one pass during his time with the Volunteers.
A former high school football and track star, Hokie fans never really got to see Seldon’s speed. A move back to running back could be in his future at his next stop.
