Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Roob’s Random Observations: What would a healthy offensive line mean for Eagles? – NBCSP 3A. I really thought their performance vs. the Vikings and Giants signaled a real breakthrough for the Eagles’ offense – 28 points and a season-high 361 yards in Minnesota and a season-high 38 points and another season-high 427 yards in the Giants rematch. It felt like maybe Kevin Patullo was in a play-calling groove, Jalen Hurts was playing his best football
ever, the running game had finally materialized and even A.J. Brown was getting the ball. That’s why the Packers performance was so disappointing. Yeah, it was cold and windy. Yeah, it’s Lambeau Field. Yeah, that’s a good defense. But come on. Ten points? Fewer than 300 yards? No trips inside the red zone? Under 3 ½ yards per rush? Only three drives of at least 25 yards? This was an offensive disaster and the Eagles only won because of a massive performance by their defense. The offense’s inability to show any sort of consistency from week to week is alarming, and this sort of regression raises even more concern about Kevin Patullo’s ability to get this thing turned around, not just for a week or two weeks but for the second half of the season and into the playoffs. We’re in Week 11 now and the Eagles haven’t scored more than 20 points in three straight games. They haven’t averaged 3 ½ yards per rush in three straight games. They haven’t had more than 16 first downs in three straight games. Every number is down from last year with essentially the same personnel, just a new right guard. This is statistically the Eagles’ worst nine-game offensive start in more than 20 years. With this talent? That’s inexcusable. Yeah, they’re 7-2, but this team’s only goal is winning a championship and this is not a championship offense. If things don’t get better soon, something has to change.
Eagles Opponent Film Room: Scouting the Detroit Lions’ offense – BGN
Detroit’s offense has a top-tier ceiling, but they have had its struggles of late. When the passing game is built on a successful run game and Goff operates with clean interior pockets, the Lions’ intermediate route package is one of the most difficult in the league to defend. But this unit does not handle chaos well. Interior pressure, early-down losses, and predictable third-and-long situations can expose the limitations of their quarterback. The Lions can be one of the most explosive and efficient offenses in the NFL, but they haven’t been fantastic against the elite defenses this year.
Eagles locker-room notes: How did A.J. Brown’s comments land with his teammates? – PHLY
Brown publicly voicing his frustration with the Eagles offense may have taken up most of the oxygen in Philadelphia outside of the Eagles locker room this week — it may have even done so in different corners of the NovaCare Complex as well — but him saying the offense is “a shit show” didn’t leave quite the same impression with his teammates the last few days as it did elsewhere. Most players, including Barkley, even agree with the root of Brown’s frustrations about the offense not playing up to its potential after the team’s 10-7 win over the Packers relied heavily on a dominant defensive performance covering up a stagnant offensive showing. “How do we handle it? It’s not an actual thing that’s going on,” Barkley said. “If anything, we might make a joke about it, laugh about it, but keep it moving. We’re focused on the Detroit Lions. … The way we played on Monday, more times than not, if we play that game against a lot of teams, we’re going to lose.” “Whether we score 10 or we score 40, A.J.’s not saying anything wrong,” Barkley added. “We’re always looking for ways to improve.”
Finally – Iggles Blitz
There is a lot of intrigue with the Eagles offense because they are coming off a 10-point game and also the AJ Brown drama. Green Bay did a real number on the Eagles. The previous two games were a different story. Philly scored 38 against the Giants and 28 against the Vikings. Can they get back to those kind of numbers? The Eagles will have to put up points to win this game. One TD will not be enough to beat the Lions. The good news is that the Lions have a very banged up secondary. This would be a good week to focus on the passing game. Turn AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith loose and let Jalen Hurts air it out. This won’t be a game where you play “not to lose”. The Eagles will have to be aggressive and take some chances. I think we’re all excited to finally see this matchup. Let’s hope the teams give us a good show.
The Eagles have another defensive star that nobody is talking about – NJ.com
Moro Ojomo’s overall Pro Football Focus grade ranks eighth out of 124 defensive tackles with at least 125 snaps this season. His 15.4% pass-rush win rate (the % of times he’s beating his blockers) ranks sixth out of 103 defensive tackles with at least 100 pass-rush snaps. And his 34 QB pressures — sacks, hits and hurries combined — ranks fourth among DTs. The only d-tackles with more QB pressures than Ojomo? Denver’s Zach Allen, Seattle’s Leonard Williams and New England’s Milton Williams. An All-Pro, a two-time Pro Bowler and one of the offseason’s most expensive free agents. Pretty good company for the 24-year-old to keep.
Ranking NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year candidates at midseason: Who makes top five? – NFL.com
5) JIHAAD CAMPBELL. It felt like highway robbery when the Eagles pounced on Campbell with the penultimate pick of the first round in April. Post-combine shoulder surgery might have scared some teams away, but Howie Roseman didn’t blink, trading up one slot to land the versatile ‘Bama ‘backer. “For us, this is a really easy pick,” Roseman said in April. “He’s a really explosive player. He can play inside. He can be an edge rusher. I just really feel fortunate to bring him home back to Philly. “This was a top-10 player on our board. We do not have any long-term concerns with his health.” I know Howie worship is reaching insufferable degrees these days, but man, it sure feels like the guy just doesn’t miss. Campbell started the first eight games of the season, immediately making his presence felt as a rangy playmaker on Vic Fangio’s talented defense. Nakobe Dean’s return from injury has eaten into Campbell’s playing time, which is why the rookie doesn’t rank higher in this exercise, but it’s pretty clear the reigning Super Bowl champions did indeed get a steal at the end of Round 1. Must be nice.
Spadaro: 6 storylines to follow in Lions vs. Eagles – PE.com
The Eagles offense looks for more production. There is not a single player in the locker room who believes the offense has played at its peak this season. That’s the exciting part for a team that is 7-2 and has high hopes for the remainder of the season. The goal is to have a consistently high level of execution. “It’s been winning in a lot of different ways. It’s truly been the collective of that. Playing together,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said. “I think we’re still searching for those things. We’re always a work in progress. We’re always trying to get better. We’re always trying to improve. We’re always trying to figure things out, and that’s just the mentality we have to have regardless of what it looks like. It doesn’t matter what the performance is or what the outcome is. It’s about the process.” How do the Eagles attack the Lions? Hurts called the Lions’ defense “disruptive,” a group that mainly plays “man” coverage but, in this instance, could show some zone looks to the Eagles. Most defenses have played zone against Hurts and Co., stacking the box to contain the running game and trying to take away the early reads in Hurts’s progression. Detroit has some injury concerns on defense: Cornerback Terrion Arnold and safety Kerby Joseph, the team leader with three interceptions, were both ruled out.
Eagles ramping up for physical prime-time matchup vs. Lions – ESPN
The Eagles are well aware of the physical brand of football the Lions play and intend to “fight fire with fire” Sunday night, defensive tackle Jordan Davis says. “Being physical as well,” Davis said Friday on the messaging from the coaches. “We never want to shy away from that. We never want to shy away from a physical team. We always want to meet physicality with physicality.” The 7-2 Eagles and 6-3 Lions will square off in a game that could shape the race for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Lions (33-10) and Eagles (32-11) rank first and second in the NFL in wins since the start of the 2023 season, but this is the first time they have met during that span.
Lions coordinator won’t let family travel to Philadelphia for Eagles matchup – MLive
“It’ll be incredible. I mean, I love the place,” Fipp told reporters when discussing his return. “It was an incredible experience there. I was there for eight years. We have a lot of friends, and my kids spent a lot of their childhood years growing up there. They love it, they’ve got a lot of friends there. We had a lot of success as a team, individually, and also on special teams, so that was good. “And then obviously winning the Super Bowl, incredible. So, going back there will be epic, I can’t wait. I’m fired up. I look forward to being on the other side of it, just to see that side of it too. Those fans are incredible, they’re very fanatic and passionate about the game, and they’re very manageable too. So, it’ll be fun.” But while Fipp is excited to be back, he’ll be doing so in Honolulu blue and silver — and without his family. As much as Philadelphia means to them, he made an executive decision about bringing them into what is widely recognized as one of the NFL’s most hostile fan environments. “Oh no. They’ll stay here,” Fipp said when asked if his family would join him. “You don’t go there with the wrong color jersey.”
Detroit Lions not ready to activate 2 players from IR yet – Pride Of Detroit
The Detroit Lions are not expecting to activate two players from injured reserve quite yet. Coach Dan Campbell told media on Friday that cornerback D.J. Reed and defensive end Marcus Davenport aren’t likely play this week after both returned to practice Wednesday from extended absences. Both will remain on injured reserve this week, meaning they won’t count against the 53-man roster. “I don’t see D.J. yet. I love where he’s at, he’s getting better,” Campbell said. “He and Davenport both. They look good. They’ve just gotten back out there, working them back in.” Detroit could have used Reed this week, as it appears they’ll be shorthanded at cornerback for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Terrion Arnold has not practiced all week after suffering a concussion during last week’s game against the Commanders. Additionally, Amik Robertson is dealing with a hamstring injury, although he did practice on Friday. If Robertson can go, he’ll like be the team’s top cornerback, with Rock Ya-Sin and Nick Whiteside serving as the next men up.
Week 11 should feature a new-look defense for the Dallas Cowboys – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys defense could look like an entirely different unit when they re-take the field in Week 11 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Due to the additions they made at the trade deadline and players returning from injuries, there’s a spark of hope we could see a much improved defense for the rest of the season. Through the midway point of the 2025 NFL season, the Cowboys defense is ranked in the bottom of the league in nearly every category. They are currently ranked dead last in yards per game (397.4) and points per game (30.8), 28th in the league in rushing yards per game (143.0), and 29th in the league in passing yards per game (254.4). There is hope the new additions will improve things for the second half of the season.
Commanders vs Dolphins Friday Injury Report: Two players questionable – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders held their third, and final practice of the week in Spain as they prepare to play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Two players are listed as questionable, and they both picked up new injuries during the week. TE Ben Sinnott was on yesterday’s report, and he was limited with an ankle injury, and didn’t practice today. LB Jordan Magee was limited today with a new knee injury, and is questionable for Sunday. He saw less snaps last week, and could be limited if he plays. Four players didn’t travel to Spain and they were all ruled out. QB Jayden Daniels will miss his second game due to an elbow dislocation. He is expected to be reevaluated after the team’s Week 12 bye, and they will reassess his return to play timeline. WR Treylon Burks had finger surgery, and LB Ale Kaho didn’t travel after suffering a concussion on a kickoff on Sunday.
Bill Belichick will not be New York Giants next head coach – Big Blue View
A flirtation with the idea of Bill Belichik becoming the next full-time head coach of the New York Giants is over before it ever really started. Belichick on Friday night took himself out of the running to replace Brian Daboll. “I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies,” Belichick said in a statement posted on Instagram.
NFL Expert Picks for Week 11 of 2025 – SB Nation
The only safe prediction for Week 11 is that it will be a better week of football than Week 10. It was an ugly, ugly week around the NFL with the games just being … bad. There was very little compelling, with only Buccaneers-Patriots and Bears-Giants being enjoyable.
