In less than four weeks, new Texas Longhorns wide receiver Cam Coleman will take the field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for his first game in burnt orange and white.
On Saturday, the program provided some insight into the type of plays that the Auburn transfer is capable of making for Texas by posting an insane one-handed catch that Coleman made during Friday’s practice.
Coming across the middle, the 6’3, 204-pounder had
to adjust to a ball that was tipped near the line of scrimmage, slowing his momentum and twisting his body to fully extend his left hand and snag the ball. Coleman’s impressive body control allowed him to quickly generate momentum up the field and through the thud tempo from two defenders who quickly converged.
Two years with the Tigers provided plenty of opportunities for Coleman to flash his body control and make adjustments, especially considering the poor quarterback play on the Plains. But with Texas opting against a spring-ending scrimmage and only providing a few limited opportunities for media to watch practices, there hasn’t been much public insight into the plays Coleman has been making as he prepares for his single season on the Forty Acres.
But it’s clear from that limited insight that Coleman has an elite ability to effortlessly catch the ball outside the framework of his body, whether it’s with one hand or two hands, and whether the ball is on target or not.
And that’s exciting after the wide receivers had so many moments like season when they didn’t finish plays for Arch Manning.
