VU Hoops, you may recognize my first name. You may also recognize me as Matt769, or Matt3511 for the way-back members. I’m happy to introduce, or reintroduce, myself as Matt Lukoskie – VU Hoops Contributor.
For those that don’t know me from the last 15-plus years of commenting: I did not go to Villanova. I graduated from the University of Nevada in 2012 (go Wolf Pack). I’m not from the area (born and raised in Sacramento, CA). So why am I a Villanova fan?
I’ve liked the 76ers since 2000, and one day I saw that awesome team with Allan Ray, Randy Foye, Mike Nardi, Curtis Sumpter, Kyle Lowry and Will Sheridan playing in their arena. So I’ve been a fan since early 2004. My major moment was in 2009, when I nearly slipped and fell on my parents’ hardwood floor running around after Scottie Reynolds sent Villanova to the Final Four.
Then comes 2016, which to this day is the highlight of my sports fandom. As a die-hard sports fan since 1997, I had never seen one of my favorite teams win a championship. When that Kris Jenkins shot went through the hoop, it was two decades in the making. I still relive that moment in my head on a regular basis, as I’m sure most of you do as well.
Now, we look forward to this new chapter with Kevin Willard at the helm. I can feel that level of rejuvenation within the fans and alumni. I hope to bring some of that excitement in helping to rejuvenate this forum. I’ve loved being a member of this community since my college days. My career went the way of insurance underwriting, but I’ve never lost the joy of writing. It’s an honor to be able to do that for a site that I’ve been a part of for so long.
So feel free to write in the comments any thoughts, suggestions and ideas on content you would like to see at VU Hoops.
Let’s go Cats.
