Defender Kayla Duran has signed a two year contract extension with NJ/NY Gotham FC through 2027, the club announced on Friday.
“I am so excited to be re-signing with Gotham FC,” said Duran. “Coming off my rookie season as an NWSL champion, I truly could not have imagined a better start to my professional career. This club and this team mean so much to me, and I’m proud to continue building here and representing Gotham.”
26-year-old Duran joined Gotham as a national team replacement player last summer,
then signed an extension through January’s FIFA Women’s Champions Cup in London. She started and played in the tournament in the third place match, where Gotham won 4-0 against Moroccan champions AS FAR.
“Kayla has shown great quality in her time at the club so far,” said Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC. “She continues to grow as a player, and we’re excited about the impact she can have for us moving forward.”
Duran made nine regular season appearances and played regularly in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, where she scored a goal against Alianza and was named Player of the Match. Duran was also involved in the buildup to Katie Stengel’s game-winning quarterfinal goal over Kansas City in the NWSL playoffs last year, kicking off Gotham’s successful playoff run.
Duran, who is from Massachusetts, previously played college soccer at Boston College, Brown University, and USC. She took a break from soccer, before playing again in the The Soccer Tournament (TST), a small-sided tournament where she played on Hope Solo’s team, and then signed with Gotham FC in 2025.
In addition to playing full time with Gotham, Duran, who has a Masters in Business Analytics, also held a full-time job as a data analyst, balancing both roles.
Gotham will begin their regular season on March 14, playing an away match expansion team Boston Legacy FC.
