Dean Huijsen spoke to the media alongside Xabi Alonso a day before Real Madrid’s match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday. He was asked about how his fit has worked out at his new club, to which he said:
“Real Madrid is a dream. For me and for everyone, they are the best team and the best club in the world. I fit well with Xabi’s ideas and the club’s plans, and I’m very happy to be here.”
Huijsen on the match on Tuesday
“We’re really looking forward to it. We hope to take all three points and do our best.“
Huijsen on his first few months at the club
“Mentally I’m in great shape. I’m very happy to be here, it’s my dream and I hope to bring a lot of joy to the Madrid fans.”
Huijsen on Vinicius Jr’s apology
“To be honest, the press has written a lot about this, and you’ve made a huge fuss over something that wasn’t such a big deal. He apologized, and I think that’s fair. It’s no big deal; these things happen in football.”
Huijsen on his partnership with Militao
“Militao is a very complete centre-back and off the pitch he’s also a great guy. We get along really well.”
Huijsen on not training at Anfield
“I’ve played here before. It won’t be a problem for me, because it’s just a football pitch. I’d rather train at our training ground than here before the match.”
Huijsen on what he learned in Italy
“In Italy, I went to learn how to defend well. I learned a lot about my defensive game. I’m very grateful to Juventus and Roma. I had a great time at both clubs.”
Huijsen on Xabi Alonso’s tasks for him
“I’m good at playing the ball out from the back and I try to help the team wherever I can. Xabi asks that of me, and more.”
Huijsen on whether Mbappé has improved this season
“I wasn’t there last year. I’ve been watching Real Madrid’s matches. If he won the Golden Boot last year, he can’t be in bad form. We’re very happy with him.”
