There is no longer an undefeated team in the state of Florida as Miami fell from the ranks with a 24-21 defeat at the hands of Louisville. It was an eventful week in the state as the University of Florida fired
head coach Billy Napier, and Florida State gave Mike Norvell the dreaded vote of confidence after their 4th straight loss. USF still controls their destiny for a potential playoff berth but has to win out to do so. As we hit the 2nd half of the season, there will be a potential for 2 teams in the state to represent on the biggest stage.
1 Miami (5-1, 1-1) – The pursuit of perfection was intercepted 4 times by Louisville in a tough 24-21 loss to the Cardinals. Miami fell behind 14-0 but battled back and had the ball with under a minute to play with a chance to tie or win, but Carson beck threw his 4th pick of the day. Miami now must win out to secure a college football playoff spot, and even winning out may not get them in the ACC Championship game.
Next Game Saturday vs Stanford 7pm Saturday
2. USF (6-1, 3-0) – The Bulls continue to be the front runner to make the playoffs out of the group of 5. Their offense continues to put up video game numbers against lesser opponents. The competition for a playoff spot seems to come down to USF, Navy, Tulane, James Madison, Memphis and North Texas. The Bulls have a win over the Mean Green, and with a victory over Florida, winning out could give them the ultimate prize.
Next Game @ Memphis Noon Saturday
3. UCF (4-3, 1-3) – The Knights got their 1st conference win over West Virginia 45-13. Tayven Jackson threw for 277 yards and 2 TDs on the victory. The 45 points were the most for UCF since a week 2 68-point outburst. UCF needs 2 more wins to become bowl eligible.
Next Game November 1st @ Baylor
4. FIU (3-4, 1-2) – The vice color jerseys looked really good, but the performance on the field didn’t match in a 45-26 weeknight loss to Kennesaw State. Keyone Jenkins accounted for 296 yards and a TD in defeat. The Panthers will need 3 wins in their final 5 contests to become bowl eligible.
Next Game @ Missouri St 10/29
5. FAU (3-4, 2-2) – The Owls saw their 2-game winning streak come to an end in a blowout defeat to USF 48-13. FAU got 244 yards and 1 TD from Caden Veltkamp in the loss. The junior has accounted for 2025 yards and 15 TDS so far this year. FAU needs 3wins to have a chance to make a bowl game.
Next Game @ Navy 10/25
6. Florida (3-4, 2-2) – How you get fired after a win, Craig? The Billy Napier “error” comes to an end after a win against Mississippi St 23-21. Fans were booing Napier as he left the field, and with an overall losing record in his time at UF, it was beyond time to make a move. The rest of their season doesn’t matter as much as who they hire moving forward. Lane Kiffin is at the top of the wish list, but can they woo the Ole Miss head man.
Next Game vs Georgia November 1st
7. FSU (3-4, 0-4) – They are too broke to fire their coach. They haven’t won an ACC game in over a calendar year. The program is broken, and Mike Norvell will be employed the remainder of the year. Losing to Stanford at 3am is a fireable offense, and very day Norvell is employed sets the program back even farther. Keep Mike forever!
Next Game vs Wake Forest November 1st
