TNA served their biggest show of the year with a happy ending. Leon Slater won the TNA World Championship from Nic Nemeth in the main event of Bound For Glory, and he made history in the process. Slater is the youngest TNA world champion of all-time at the age of 22 years old.
This match stole the show. The back and forth action blended Nemeth’s wrestling skills with Slater’s athletic offense. Nemeth phoned a friend or two to break out The Miz’s Skull Crushing Finale and Zack Ryder’s Rough Ryder.
That wasn’t enough to keep Slater down.
Nemeth’s own finisher couldn’t get the job done either. When both wrestlers were tired from the pace, Nemeth blasted a headbutt and exploded for the Danger Zone. Slater kicked out.
Slater had his own tricks. After a superkick and scissor kick combo, Slater wearily climbed the corner for his finisher. Tension was building on each step. This was the moment all the fans were waiting for. You could feel the torch being passed to crown Slater as world champion. Slater connected on the Swanton 450. 1, 2, Nemeth kicked out! The crowd erupted in shock. I really wish TNA put the clip of this moment on social media, because it truly captures the star power of Slater among their fans. I bit hard on that false finish myself.
Slater would have his moment of glory. The action continued, and Slater leaped over the ring post for a dive.
That was the beginning of the end. With Nemeth back inside the ring, Slater climbed for his finisher. Nemeth thought he rolled out of range. Slater adjusted for a flying splash, then he scurried up the buckles for the Swanton 450 to win.
Slater shared his thoughts backstage about making his dreams come true. He manifested this success, and things are happening how they are supposed to. Slater can’t be prouder to represent TNA.
