We are mere days away from the tip-off of the 2026-27 college basketball season. Throughout this week, we have delved into a number of preseason rankings for the Mountain West. But for the final part of our tip-off series, we did a site-wide preseason power rankings! Let’s dive into it!
10. Air Force
9. UTEP
8. UC Davis
7. San Jose State
6. Hawai’i
5. Wyoming
4. UNLV
3. Nevada
2. New Mexico
1. Grand Canyon
For most of the summer, Grand Canyon and New Mexico were widely viewed as the two-best teams in the Mountain West. However, that wasn’t how it shook out in our rankings.
While the Lobos received two first-place votes,
they also received one third-place vote, with that voter slotting Nevada ahead of them. Grand Canyon accumulated four first-place votes, giving them the leg up; in my opinion, they have the most talented team in the Mountain West. But you still have to play the games!
The aforementioned Wolf Pack finished as high as No. 2 and as low as No. 4, while UNLV finished as high as No. 3 and as low as No. 5 among our six panelists. UTEP and Air Force were unanimously picked to finish No. 9 and 10, respectively, while there was a mix between Nos. 6-8 with Hawai’i, San Jose State and the newly-acquired UC Davis.
For future power rankings, I will go more in depth. But what stood out to you? Let us know in the comments!
