The Dodgers made a roster move on Sunday ahead of their final home game of the regular season, with catcher Chuckie Robinson claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves.
Among other things, this clears a 40-man roster spot for the Dodgers, who might activate pitcher Roki Sasaki off the 60-day injured list during the season’s final week. Sasaki has found his fastball of late while on rehab with Triple-A Oklahoma City, with one solid start and one scoreless inning of relief on Thursday. He’s scheduled
to pitch again in relief on Sunday before rejoining the Dodgers for evaluation.
Those are the first two relief appearances professionally for Sasaki, who does not have a path to rejoin a stacked and healthy starting rotation for the rest of this season.
Atlanta is the third major league organization this season for Robinson, who began the season in Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels’ system before getting claimed off waivers by the Dodgers in May. Robinson was activated twice by the Dodgers in September amid injuries to both Will Smith and Dalton Rushing. The 30-year-old Robinson played ine one game for the Dodgers, last Monday, before getting optioned back to Oklahoma City when Rushing was activated on Tuesday.
The Braves optioned Robinson to Triple-A Gwinnett.
In parts of three major league seasons with the Reds, White Sox, and Dodgers, Robinson has played in 52 games, starting 44 games behind the plate, while hitting .131/169/.192 in 138 plate appearances.
