The Wisconsin Badgers are taking on the Illinois Fighting Illini in their final home game this weekend, looking to secure another big win before the season finale against the Minnesota Gophers.
Wisconsin
is coming off a 31-7 loss to the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers, where they were competitive for a half, but fell apart as the second half came along, getting outscored 21-0 in the final 30 minutes.
The Badgers offense was the main struggle, as they totaled only 168 yards, while Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza was highly efficient, completing 22-of-24 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns.
Wisconsin’s defense did neutralize the run game and sack Mendoza five times, but it was the explosive plays that took them out of things after a very competitive first half.
Now, the Badgers face an Illinois team that is coming off back-to-back wins over Maryland and Rutgers. The Fighting Illini were ranked as high as No. 9 this season, but were blown out 63-10 by Indiana in their first conference game of the year.
They do have a big win over the USC Trojans, coming on a game-winning field goal, but have also lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes and Washington Huskies. Now, after two straight wins, Illinois is looking to get nine wins for the second straight year.
