Year two of Hansi Flick’s reign at FC Barcelona has been filled with pitfalls so far. Somehow, in 10 games across all competitions, the team has seven wins, one draw, and two losses despite dealing with a multitude
of injuries.
Now, we can add another ailment to the list for the former Bayern Munich coach to deal with as Robert Lewandowski is going to be out with a muscle tear:
The hits keep on coming for Lewandowski. Per a report from Tz, the Polish Hitman’s contract is not likely to be renewed in Catalonia:
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is apparently on the verge of leaving FC Barcelona . The Spanish newspaper Sport reports that the 37-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and will not be renewed. The reasons for this are obvious: His advanced age, a noticeable decline in performance, and a lack of pressing make a contract extension unlikely, according to the report.
The coming months will be crucial for the Polish striker’s future. Whether he continues his career in Barcelona or pursues new paths remains to be seen. What is certain is that FC Barcelona has already set the course for a future without Lewandowski at the center of attack.
Finally, Lewandowski directly addressed the situation, but said he feels great (aside of this recent muscle tear).
“I’m not saying I’m a “victim” of my age, but… there are those who exploit that. I feel in excellent condition,“ said Lewandowski (as captured by Fabrizio Romano). “I don’t expect to play 90 every match, and my view of football has changed a little, but when I’m on the field I know I can do great.”
The German national team knew it would need to step up its efforts against Northern Ireland.
While not a powerhouse, the Northern Ireland squad was game and made life very tough during Germany’s 1-0 victory. It was not pretty and it was not likely the kind of dominant result that fans wanted to see, but it was a stiff test and one where the Germans could not afford to come out flat.
Intensity and focus were there, but execution was not. Regardless, it was a win for Germany. Let’s dive into the details. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
