The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced four practice squad transactions on Tuesday afternoon. Here’s an overview:
- OT Xavier Truss and DT Zion Wilson were signed to the practice squad.
- TE Josiah Deguara and CB Shaun Wade were released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
XAVIER TRUSS
The 25-year-old Truss is a newcomer to the Eagles. He played college football at Georgia before going unpicked in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Truss originally signed with the Denver Broncos before landing with the New Orleans Saints, where he logged zero offensive snaps and 30 special teams snaps last season.
After being waived by the
Saints during roster cuts, Truss joined the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad in mid-September. He was then cut last week.
Here’s a look at Truss’ snap counts by position:
2026 (NFL preseason) — LG 48, RG 41
2025 (NFL preseason) — RT 65
2024 (college) — RT 656, RG 87, LG 2
2023 (college) — RT 424, LG 117, RG 61, LT 32
2022 (college) — LG 599, LT 1
2021 (college) — RG 185
2020 (college) — LT 60
2019 (college) — LT 44
As you can seen, Truss has experience at four of the five offensive line positions. That probably makes him a useful player to have for filling reps in practice settings.
And should the Eagles’ offensive line situation get even more desperate, they could look to call him up a depth option.
Pre-draft scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:
Sixth-year senior who saw more reps at tackle but will need to play guard on the next level. Truss is tough but inconsistent. He’s adequate as a base blocker but lacks the core strength and body control to stay centered and connected over the rep. He moves well enough to play in space but only at an average level. Truss does a nice job of keeping rushers at the end of his punch and he scans for potential trouble in both of his gaps. Athletic limitations and a lack of bend could create anchor and recovery issues inside. Truss is a likely Day 3 selection with backup potential as a guard.
ZION WILSON
BGN’s Alexis Chassen previously wrote about Wilson’s return on Monday.
I’ll just add that it’s nice to see him back in Philly after he showed some potential in the preseason. Curious that the Eagles didn’t look to add him back to the practice squad sooner. Or maybe they did and Wilson wanted to keep his options open.
Also, not sure why the Eagles are looking to add more DT depth when they already have five on the roster and Gabe Hall on the practice squad. But, again, I like Wilson’s developmental potential.
JOSIAH DEGUARA
The Eagles signed Deguara back in mid-September after Eli Stowers was placed on injured reserve. The team temporarily elevated him for their Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, where he logged zero offensive snaps and 21 special teams snaps.
Now he’s gone.
I wonder if the Eagles might opt to open Stowers’ 21-day practice window soon? He became eligible to return from injured reserve after Week 4.
SHAUN WADE
After spending training camp with the Eagles, Wade was released in late August. He returned to Philly on the practice squad in late September. But now the 28-year-old cornerback is gone again.
