Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt officially signed a new three-year extension with the team earlier this week, and we finally have the hard numbers of what the team looks like. On paper, it’s a three-year, $57 million deal, but the accounting gets more complicated than that, considering Wyatt was set to play on a fifth-year option worth $12.9 million in 2026 already.
Functionally, Packers fans should treat this as a four-year contract, since Wyatt’s base salary (game checks) dropped
from $12.9 million to just $1.2 million with this deal. It’s three years and $57 million in new money on top of the one year and $12.9 million already on the books, but the money has been moved around structurally.
Here’s the year-by-year breakdown of the cash Wyatt will receive:

None of this money is guaranteed at signing other than Wyatt’s signing bonus and his 2026 roster bonus.
Here’s what it looks like from a cap perspective for the Packers:

- 2027: $16 million ($15 million dead cap)
- 2028: $23.5 million ($10 million dead cap)
- 2029: $22 million ($5 million dead cap)
Unsurprisingly, the Packers backloaded the cap hits but frontloaded the payment with a big signing bonus (and low guarantees otherwise). This is pretty standard procedure for Green Bay.
On paper, this should be treated like a two-year, $34.4 million contract (from a cash perspective) with two team options. With that being said, that’s only one year and $21.9 million in new money for Wyatt, as his fifth-year option was already on the books.
In 2028, the Packers have the option to pay Wyatt $18.5 million in cash for his services or save $13.5 million in immediate cap space (as a pre-June 1st release). In 2029, Green Bay’s options are to pay Wyatt $17 million or save that same $17 million on the cap.
Functionally, Wyatt got $21.9 million to be on the team in 2027 and gave the Packers the option to keep him at $18.5 million in 2028 and $17 million in 2029.
