In Dodgers minor league games played Wednesday, September 3rd, we have home runs by Eduardo Quintero, Ryan Ward, and Jake Gelof, and rehab appearances by Tommy Edman and Alex Vesia.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Sugar Land Space Cowboys scored nine runs in the first three innings, then hung on as the Oklahoma City Comets came back with seven unanswered runs, ultimately winning the game 9-7. Matt Sauer got roughed up for eight runs in two and one-third innings to take the loss. Alex Vesia made a relief
appearance and pitched a perfect inning. Ryan Ward hit his 32nd home run and notched his 115th RBI. There was a Tommy Edman sighting, as he was given two at-bats and four innings in centerfield as he begins his rehab in preparation for getting activated for the Dodgers’ stretch run and postseason.
Double-A Tulsa
This game was postponed and rescheduled for Sept 4th.
High-A Great Lakes
Kendall George and Josue De Paula led off the game with singles, Eduardo Quintero homered, Zyhir Hope walked, Jake Gelof homered, and the Great Lakes Loons ambushed the Lake County Captains with five runs in the first inning. The Captains came back with five runs of their own, but another five-run inning by the Loons in the seventh inning put the game away, eventually winning 11-5. George had three more stolen bases and now only needs three more for 100 with four games left to go. George, De Paula, Quintero, and Zyhir Hope, batting one through four in the Loons lineup, combined for six hits, five walks, four RBIs, and nine runs scored.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes fell short in their comeback attempt in the ninth inning and succumbed to the Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies) 7-6. After Rancho Cucamonga starter Jakob Wright struck out the side in the top of the first inning, the Quakes pieced together three runs in the bottom of the inning on three walks and two singles. Fresno answered with two runs of their own in the top of the second, completing Wright’s outing with six swinging strikeouts in two innings, around three hits, and a walk. The game found its way to the bottom of the eighth inning with the Quakes down by a run, when Niko Perez homered to tie the game. Wildness in the top of the ninth lost the game for the Quakes. A hit-by-pitch and three walks gave the Grizzlies the lead, and a single cashed in two more runs. Emil Morales had three hits for the Quakes, and Ching-Hsien Ko reached base five times with four walks and a single.
