Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was unveiled as the new France head coach on Monday. Zidane won the World Cup with France in 2998 and the Euros in 2000. He took them to the final of the World Cup again in 2006. The Former captain replaces Didier Deschamps, who left the role after 14 years in charge. In his first press conference as the France boss, Zidane mentioned that after his second stint with Real Madrid in 2021, he had been waiting for the national team role only.
“Today is a dream. I’ve had proposals for four or five years to manage clubs, and I’ve rejected them all for France. It’s the only thing I wanted to do. I’m going to give it my all so that this team keeps on winning; it’s the only thing that motivates me,” Zidane said.
France captain Kylian Mbappe took to Instagram to congratulate Zidane with a story captioned, “Welcome Home”.
