The North Carolina Tar Heels are just moments away from taking on the Navy Midshipmen in a Tuesday night matchup in the Dean Dome. The Heels hope to maintain their flawless record with a win tonight, which
would be ideal considering what is coming next — following tonight’s game, the team will have some time off before facing off against St. Bonaventure and Michigan state next weekend.
Tonight’s game will be the second Power Four game so far for the Navy. They played Penn State earlier this season and lost by nine points, which can mean one of two things: they are good enough to hang with a Power Four team, or Penn State isn’t that good and have just played soft competition. Either way, the Heels are never allowed to take a night off whenever they set foot on the court, so hopefully they are ready and willing to do everything they can to put the Midshipmen away early.
What will draw the most eyes in this game is what kind of production Hubert Davis will get from his bench, and who will that production come from. Jonathan Powell has proven to be a reliable shooter from three, but he hasn’t actually put up that many points regardless. There’s also the elephant in the room that is the backup center position, so we’ll see if one of Zayden High or James Brown can finally stand out in the pack. Something tells me Hubert Davis will turn towards a lineup with Caleb Wilson and Jarin Stevenson at the four and five, but there has to be a Plan B if one of them and Henri Veesaar all get into foul trouble.
Ultimately this should be a fun game if you enjoy the Heels beating up on a non-Power Four team. As always, we will be back afterwards with post-game analysis and takes. Until then, Go Heels!
