Paul Heyman, Brock Lesnar’s longtime friend and manager, has convinced himself (and probably Brock) that Lesnar would still be UFC champion at age 49 had the WWE superstar not contracted diverticulitis, which is described as inflammation of irregular bulging pouches in the wall of the large intestine.
In layman’s terms, it feels like a “shotgun blast to the stomach.”
I’ve never been shot in the belly (or anywhere else) so I’ll just have to take his word for it; however, I doubt Lesnar would have remained
undefeated in UFC regardless of his health. Did we forget what happened against Frank Mir at UFC 81 in early 2008?
Oh right, that was Steve Mazzagatti’s fault.
“If he didn’t have diverticulitis, he would have never been defeated in the UFC,” Heyman told Graham Bensinger. “Never. Never. He’d still be champion today at 49. There’s nobody on this planet that could hang with him, no one. No one. No one. No one would get out of the first round with him. There’s no way.”
Little know fact about diverticulitis: it only affects you in defeat.
Several years after his battle with diverticulitis, Lesnar made his Octagon comeback at UFC 200 — and he was “feeling f—king awesome” ahead of his Mark Hunt fight. His unanimous decision victory over the “Super Samoan” was later overturned to a “No Contest” after creamy-feet Lesnar flunked his drug test.
The 49-year-old Lesnar (5-3) later resurfaced for this post-fight drama then just as quickly returned to WWE for the remainder of his career.
