We have some encouraging numbers from Jets first round pick Armand Membou.
Now the Jets did give Membou some help at points, but he also held up well one on one against TJ Watt, one of
the league’s top pass rushers.
Membou’s preseason was a bit uneven. He entered the league a player who has a lot of ability but needs some technical refinement.
The reality is that none of us should be surprised if Membou has some hiccups during his rookie season. Almost every tackle has them, even players who end up being really good in the long run.
But getting an assignment this tough in your first game and pitching a shutout shows that the sky is the limit for Membou. It also shows that he might be further along in his development than many of us anticipated. For a Jets team that needs its young tackles to play at a high level for the offense to work, it is a very encouraging sign.
