The Portland Trail Blazers have assigned center Robert Williams III to the Rip City Remix for return-to-court conditioning, the organization announced today.
This doesn’t mean Williams will be suiting up
in games for the Blazers’ G League affiliate. Instead, he’ll be using the assignment to get extra practice time. The Remix start training camp today, while the Blazers play road games tonight and Wednesday before returning to Portland for a matchup with the Denver Nuggets on Friday.
Williams has missed all of Portland’s preseason and regular-season games so far with the designation of “return-to-court conditioning.” The initial cause of Williams’ absence stems from an arthroscopic procedure he underwent last March to address inflammation in his left knee. He last appeared in a game on Feb. 20.
The 6-foot-9 backup center appeared in 20 games for the Blazers last season, averaging 5.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.7 blocks and 17.6 minutes per outing.
UPDATE: On the topic of injuries, the Blazers have also announced wing Matisse Thybulle is questionable to play against the Los Angeles Lakers tonight due to right hip soreness. The Blazers tip off against the Lakers at 7:30 p.m. Pacific.
Thybulle played 15 minutes last night during Portland’s 114-107 loss to the LA Clippers. He logged five points on 2-4 shooting and three steals.
